What is a backbone organization?

Sustainable Collective Impact initiatives require centralized support and coordination – often known as a backbone organization – with dedicated staff whose role is to help participating organizations shift from acting alone to acting in concert. For mission and ministry organizations pursuing collective impact, Mission Mutual is positioned to play this role.

What is "collective impact"?

The Collective Impact approach is premised on the belief that no single organization or program can tackle or solve the most complex and broadest scale problems; these call for multiple organizations or entities (from an intra-sector perspective) to prioritize a common agenda, identify shared goals, and form alignment of effort in view of their own. In the Collective Impact approach, a cord of three strands is not easily broken. – Ecclesiastes 4:12
